Degrees and Certificates

Associate of Arts (AA) Degree

An AA degree is what you’ll receive after earning 60 credits in a combination of required and elective courses in programs that include English, Pre-Psychology and Pre-Social Work. It takes about two years to complete attending full time and is designed for transfer to a four-year college or university so you may pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Associate of Science (AS) Degree

An AS degree is what you’ll receive after earning 60 credits in a combination of required and elective courses in programs that include Mathematics and Pre-Engineering. It takes about two years to complete and is designed for transfer to a four-year college or university so you may pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree

An AAS degree is what you’ll receive after earning 60 credits in a combination of required and elective courses in programs that include Architectural Technology, Culinary Arts, Website Programming and Nursing (as well as several others). It takes about two years to complete attending full time and because it is an “applied” degree, you’ll possess employable skills as soon as you graduate. Transferring to a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor’s degree is also an option.

Associate of Business Administration (ABA) Degree

An ABA degree is what you’ll receive after earning 60 credits in a combination of required and elective courses in programs that include Accounting, Business Management and Global Supply Chain Management. It takes about two years to complete attending full time and is designed for transfer to a four-year college or university so you may pursue a bachelor’s degree. It can also lead to entry-level employment.

Associate of General Studies (AGS) Degree

An AGS degree is what you’ll receive after earning 60 credits in a combination of required and elective courses in an individualized (developed with a counselor or advisor) program of study. It takes about two years to complete attending full time and is designed for transfer to a four-year college or university so you may pursue a bachelor’s degree or can, in some cases, lead to immediate employment.

Academic Certificates*

Several of Macomb’s degree-credit programs, including Culinary Arts, Electronic Engineering Technology and Information Technology, offer an option to earn a certificate in approximately a year that focuses entirely on the skills you need for immediate employment. You may choose to continue on and earn an associate degree, which will provide for greater career advancement opportunities.

Workforce and Continuing Education (WCE) Certificates*

Most all of WCE’s occupational programs award a certificate upon completion, including Administrative Assistant Professional, Floral Design and Laboratory Assistant. All WCE occupational programs are short-term: anywhere from five weeks to six months.

* Look for the * symbol on the Find a Program page, designating programs that award certificates upon completion.
